New Mexico RB Arrested After Alleged Gang Rape
University of New Mexico running back Crusoe Gongbay has been arrested along with two other men after allegedly gang raping a woman in a car. The RB is being charged with rape and kidnapping. Here are the details from KRQE.com:
“Officers were dispatched to the Casa dorms, they met with a female, they subsequently took her to the same unit the sexual assault nurses examiner,” said Lt. Tim Stump of the UNM Police Department.
KRQE News 13 has learned that the alleged victim was at UNM Fiesta’s event on Saturday, April 12, 2014, and later went to a house party off campus. News 13 has learned that the woman says she was taken from the home just before three in the morning, April 13th, 2014, by the three men.
News 13 has learned that the three men gang raped the woman in a car, then dropped her off at the dorm.
The alleged victim’s lawyer has also released a statement:
“My client is no longer in school, has moved back home, and is receiving therapy. She and her family are concentrating on healing and recovery, one day at a time. She is counting her blessings and thankful to be alive. My client appreciates the work of the UNM police and the support of University officials. The media and public are asked to respect her privacy while she concentrates on recovery, and not direct any efforts to contact her.” – Brad D. Hall, attorney for alleged victim.
Coach Bob Davie is aware of the situation and says that due to the serious nature of the charges, Gongbay is suspended indefinitely.
